Many different types of leather can be used in bookbinding although
most of our work is carried out using goatskin/morocco or calf.
Here is a selection of colours. Please be aware that this is intended to be only a rough quide as colour
and texture cannot be exactly represented here.
Goatskin
This is often described as morocco and is imported mainly from
Africa. It is an excellent leather, strong and hard wearing. A wide
range of attractive colours are available and it gives a pleasing tactile finish
with an interesting grain.

Calfskin
Another popular traditional leather extensively used
on antiquarian books. Although a good range of colours are available,
it is mainly the different shades of brown which are utilised. Where an old
binding needs restoring or repairing the leather can be dyed to provide
a good match.
