The boards were broken off this two volume folio book, Fosebrokes' Gloucestershire,
published in 1808. The original binding would be described as half bound in calf.

The two volumes were rebacked, an exercise where the defective leather was removed
from the spines and new headbands sewn on both head and tail. New calf leather, stained
to match the original was let in under the leather still on the boards and attached
to the spine. The hinging secured by a piece of linen cloth sewn and glued underneath the
leather on the spine and attached to the boards on the inside under the marbled pastedown.

History of the Duchy of Lancaster C 1806.
This folio volume was completely disbound. The original
printed boards were retained but the book was completely re-sewn,
many repairs needing to be made to the backs of the sections using japanese
tissue.

New headbands were sewn head and tail in linen thread. The book
was then half bound in a rich brown calf with marbled sides on new boards.
The spine had raised bands tooled on either side with a single line palette in real
gold. A leather title label in a contrasting coloured leather and lettered in
gold also decorated the spine.
